Watch Ruby Grow: 25 Weeks

This girl is the BOMB! I am just obsessed with her. She is basically a toddler in a baby's body, and every time I look at her it just blows me away that she is doing the things she does.
At 25 weeks (almost 6 months!) Ruby:
- Crawls. yup, she is on all fours and coordinating her movements wonderfully. She's not very fast, but she is definitely moving.
- Has tried rice cereal, sweet potato, and avocado. LOVES them all and grabs the spoon to shove it in her mouth. (I've been homemaking her baby food and I love it! Makes me feel so domestic even though it's the easiest thing in the world to make.)
- Diaper changes are a joke... a lot of rolling and grabbing... and with solid food comes STINKY poops. We've had to actually use the diaper genie.
- Sometimes sleeps through the night, but still has the occasional midnight feeding
- Went on her first airplane ride! We flew from Boise to Calgary and she did really good, much better than I thought she would. Just gave her some Tylenol before each flight and for the most part she slept. Got a little fussy while descending but other then that was great. I loved hauling her around the airport in her carrier on my front with a backpack on my back and suitcase in tow.
- Spits, makes a lot of noise, does this thing where she holds her breath and then blurts out "da" (I would have to demonstrate for you to really get it I think... ha). I love listening to her jabbering in the car. Smiles all the time but laughs are rare.
- Is still a pretty crappy nurser (no offense Rubes, it's my fault really.) We've been giving her formula more often to compensate for my crappy milk supply. For me, nursing is harder than giving birth.

I think a lot about the pregnancy/birthing process. I once wrote an entire post on the subject of midwife vs OB and my switch from one to the other half-way through my pregnancy, but completely chickened out on publishing it because I didn't want to ruffle any feathers and seem like I was on a soapbox. I understand that having a baby can be a very messy process, with complications and things not going as fast (or faster) than they should be. I know that 75% of you will think that I am completely off my rocker when I say having Ruby drug-free was the absolute best, most amazing and empowering thing I have ever done. It is one thing that I can really say I am passionate about- I think women seeing and FEELING what their bodies were designed to do is AWESOME! If conditions permit, I really really encourage you to try it!

Disclaimer: I'm not trying to sound tough or awesome. I was in labor for a 6 hours and hardly had time to consider drugs (although I was firm in my decision to not have an epidural.) I just feel really lucky that I was able to skip the drugs, follow my bodies lead, and bring a happy, healthy baby into this world. :)
